Vastu shastra is a traditional Hindu system of architecture, which literally translates to science of architecture. These are texts discovered on the Indian subcontinent that describe principles of design, layout, measurements, ground preparation, area plan and spatial geometry. Vastu Vidya understanding is a collection of concepts and principles, with or without the assistance of design diagrams, that are not rigid. Rather, they are models for the organization of space and kind within a building or collection of buildings, based on their functions in relation to each other, their use and to the general material of the Vastu.
Ancient Vastu Shastra concepts consist of those for the design of Hindu temples, and the principles for the design and design of houses, towns, cities, gardens, roadways, water works, stores and other public areas.
